Improvised Plays & Genre with Ben Gorodetsky

Sat, Nov 9th, 11:00am • 2.5h • 45$ • English

Level 3 and up at Montreal Improv, or equivalent.

This workshop will explore the world of theatricality, genre, and style for long form improv comedy and improvised plays. We'll explore research techniques (how to create a thoughtful homage instead of a slapdash parody), dramaturgy of formats and frameworks (set genre conventions vs flexible improv magic), acting techniques (psychology of character/Stanislavski method, physicality and movement, silence and trust), and directing (rehearsal strategies, giving notes, setting performance goals). Improv is a process, not a product; so let's set our sights on the world of theatre, film, and literature to make a stylish new hybrid of genre and sponateneity!

About:
Ben Gorodetsky is an improviser, theatre maker, writer, producer, and educator based in Brooklyn. Ben is co-creator of the critically-acclaimed, political comedy duo Folk Lordz (VICE). Some of the places Ben has taught and performed improvisation include Vienna, Ljubljana, Reunion Island, Atlanta, Detroit, Austin, Philadelphia, LA, NYC, Montreal, Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver. He is the former Associate Artistic Director of Edmonton's Rapid Fire Theatre. Ben is the winner of the 2016 Emerging Artist Award at the Mayor's Celebration for the Arts (Edmonton, AB) and a nominee for a Canadian Comedy Award in Improv.
